Dust Collection #1: Dust Collection Part 1

This is the adventure I had in dust collection, do I feel this is the right way to do dust collection, I hope so; however, I am sure there are much much better ways to do this. Since my shop is in a single car garage that occasionally needs to be used for vehicle maintenance everything I have must be mobile and must be able to be moved out of the way. My dust collection began with a shop vac vacuum, a 3 gallon bucket and a Dust Deputy. Say hello to Dusty.

Which worked very well for a long time, I just got tired of a couple of things with this collection system. The first being dragging around the hose and the vacuum cart to all the tools which typically meant it stayed on my table saw and the rest of the tools just blew dust all over the place. So this led me to the realization that I would need to have hard lined ducting to several key spots in the shop…garage…shop.

The second thing is if I was to do ducting through the shop it had to be out of the way and I would need more suction. The suction portion came to me in the way of a gift from a fellow woodworker. He had a Harbor Freight dust collection motor and impeller that he was gracious enough to give me. But at the time it was not under the idea of build a dust collector it was under the idea of creating an air filtration system, which I did and which worked great.

Next the conversion from air filtration to dust collection begins.
